World Skating Championships

I know that there are many people who dun care a hoot over figure skating. But I do. And there are many others who do too. SO here goes.

Men's skating:
1st- Stephane Lambiel(Switzerland)
2nd-Brian Joubert(France)
3rd-Evan Lysacek(USA)

Olympic silver medalist Stephane Lambiel won the gold. He finished 4th in short program but he was first in free skate. Held off a good challenge from Joubert, who had a fantastic short program and was first in sp.( I have posted the video of Joubert for his sp) Lysacek was 8th in sp, but brought the crowd to their feet with his free skate.

I like Lysacek...I like him more than the US leading male skater Johnny Weir. And ya, my Evgeni Plushenko did not skate at the Worlds...if not, the Lambiel would not have a chance to have that gold medal...

Flops in men's skating:
Johnny Weir(USA): He finshed 7th place. Was a hot contender for gold medal. I think he finished 5th place in torino. He fell heavily at one of his jumps and that caused him.
Jeffery Butle(Canada): Finished 6th place. Don't really know what happened to him. He was a hot contender for a gold medal too. The Canadian with the biggest chance of stepping on the podium. Won the bronze in torino.

These 2 guys definitely had a chance in winning...especially without my fave Plushenko. They definitely screwed up.

Johnny Weir...falling down. http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/060324/483/cnet14003240402

Ice-dancing:
1st- Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviski(Bulgaria)
2nd- Marie-France Bubreuil and Patrice Lauzon (Canada)
3rd- Tanith Belbin and Benjamin Agosto (USA)

Don't really know about the first 2 winners...remember I just got the skating obsession like 2 months ago. Lotsa things I don't know. But I like Belbin and Agosto esp seeing their original dance (aka OD, 2nd round of competition for ice-dancing). They are so full of passion in their OD!!!And the Belbin is like super gorgeous. But I never read up about them...and I don't understand why they finished 4th in OD. If they performed to their standards, they should have been first.

Flops:
Not sure who are the flops. This ice-dancing event is one of the most open events, mainly because the olympics gold medalists from russia did not compete. And I see a lot of new names in the entry lists.

Pairs:
1st- Pang Qing and Tong Jian (China)
2nd-Zhang Dan and Zhang Hao (China)
3rd-Maria Petrova and Alexei Tikhonov(Russia)

I really have very few ideas about pair skating...esp when there are 2 chinese couples there. So of course I won't know anything about the flops...

Ladies:
1st- Kimmie Meissner
2nd- Fumie Suguri
3rd- Sasha Cohen

This is an event that I know, and this is the most shocking event. This is Meissner 1st world championships competition, and she won it. Suguri's 8th time participating in worlds and she got silver. Worst of all, Cohen, who won the US title and runner-up in olympics, got bronze. And mind you, Meissner is only 16 years old.

Flops:
Sasha Cohen: Undoubtedly she is the biggest flops. Favourite for gold medal, no super strong contenders like olympics gold medalist Shizuka Arakawa and Irina Slutskaya the bronze medalist, she has a very big chance of winning it. But she has a habit of letting gold medal slipped through her fingers...she is always the 2nd place finisher. And now she done it again. She has a reputation of not having clean skates for free skate and short program. And she was leading in sp. It's so frustrating because if she nailed her jumps, be more confident and has a clean skate she would be able to win it. That is what happened in torino and I bet that is also the case in worlds. Damn it. I want her to win.

I just found out that she is 145cm tall... kinda looks like it...

She knew after her skate, that she has let another gold medal slipped through her fingers. http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/060326/483/pch12203260030

Cohen fell again. http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/060326/photos_ts/2006_03_25t181524_450x272_us_figure_skating_worlds_women

Ok...I guess that is it. Just want to post the sp of Lambiel...I actually prefer Lambiel's sp to Joubert even though Joubert was first in sp. Judge urself.

Cheerios. May not be blogging for a long time.
