I am supposed to be studying marketing, but I need a break. So here I am blogging.

Something caught my eye today, and I HAVE to comment about it. And it is not about figure skating (u can let out that breath that u have been holding). I probably wun talk about skating. Maybe just a little...

Ok. First thing first.

DISCLAIMER: I have no intentions of critising or dissing anyone here. If I sound like I did, it would be because of my command of English being poor, bad, just not good enough. And I am too blunt with my words. And I apologise. Also, I think I will sound incoherent in this post. I am sorry about that too but I had just killed 30+ millions of my brain cells for my Management Science exam paper this morning.

A few months before, I heard my friend Yingqi commenting that my friend Nicole's new hairstyle looks like Yang Cheng Ling (Rainie Yang). Immediately, I felt like I know who she is, even though I never heard of that name before and never even seen her before. I know she will have long flowy hair, with big black bambi-like eyes, sweet smile. She would perhaps be a petite girl, wearing a dress, with a flower or a ribbon in her hair and pretty colourfully painted nails. I never even bother to ask how she looks like, because I know that one day I will see her in pictures. If yingqi and nicole and others know about her, the whole of singapore would probably know her too. And Taiwan would probably be in a craze about her.

Guess what? About 1 month ago, while I was trying to read soccer news in the chinese lianhe wanbao(evening newspaper), I came across a picture of a girl and bingo! It is Rainie Yang. Just like the image I have in mind. No surprise, no brainer.

And today, in The Newpaper today, there is this article about Taiwan female stars. The article said EXACTLY what I have in mind. Cutsy female stars like Cyndi Wang and Rainie Yang. Truckloads of them. One after another. Barely 1 year in between each albums. Haven't people have enough of these kind of stars? How come people like them so much? I really don't understand. Their songs aren't exactly that great to me. There is no great melodies or beat or vocals in there. Granted, I never heard of Yang's songs but I think I know how they sound like. That article confirmed my predictions. I guess they are 'catered' for those teenage boys and girls to admire, to adore.

Then comes the next question. How come my friends, who are in their 20s, seems to like them? Ok, I dont really know whether they really like these stars. But they are always talking about them, so I guess they must like them to some extent. Is that what the whole of singapore are into now? Cute? If that is what Taiwan's media stars are like, I will get out of there and never watch those shows that feature them again. Which is like practically every Taiwanese show. Is that what we singapore teenagers idolise? Goodness. It seems so brainless to me.

I am so glad that I am into the angmoh american hollywood. I guess when people thought of Hollywood, they thought the whole industry is selling 'sex'. And to choose between hollywood and taiwan's media circle, one would choose taiwan's 'cutsy' given our Asian society. Ok I admit, Hollywood does have cutsy stars (think Hilary Duff) but there are not so many of them turning into super mega-stars like their counterparts in taiwan. Why are the cutsy stars popular? Why do the people here do not have such liking for Hilary Duff and yet go mad over Rainie Yang? Why??

And if she is pretty, I would say Sasha Cohen is even prettier.

If you really want to force me into saying which chinese stars I really admire, I would probably say Sammi Cheng, Emil Chau, Andy Lau, Faye Wong....those older stars. But....Why do the people here do not recognise Bon Jovi? Matchbox twenty? Mariah Carey? Mary J Blige? Gwen Stefani? These are really great singers with great music!! Some of the music of the cutsy stars are so.....omg that it becomes a joke. And that is the reason why I am not keen in going to K-box. All the cutsy songs....cringe cringe. I prefer to spend my time at the movie theatre for movies.

It probably boils down to culture. People cannot accept the liberal way of how hollywood thinks about sex and females. And I am probably looking at things in a very biased manner.

I wish that my friends would just go and listen to english music for a while instead of just telling me that they dont understand what it means. To me, it is so much better than the junk that is throwing in our faces. And I hope they realise that it's not all that liberal. But then again, they would probably wish that I would listen to Chinese music.

As I said before, these are just all my opinons. It's not about dissing. No insults intended, nothing intended. And I sound incoherent. Would probably need to clarify in my next post.

Anyway, just to say, I am surprised how many people come to my blog. The last time I saw it, there were 1990 visitors. 10 days later, there are 2154. So I guess there are not many people studying that hard after all. Thanks for the support!!!
