Short and Sweet (Supposedly)

My aunt, before she went back to Beijing, gave me another $100 on top of her ang pao to ask me to get whatever things I need for work, be it a handbag or cosmestics =D She is really generous with me, despite spending so much money for this Indo-Sin trip. Imagine spending (on avg) SGD500 each DAY when you are in Singapore... add up to the 5 days she was in Sg and the 2 week in Indo and you can imagine how much she spent on this trip... Haha. But that $100 came in at the right time. I already got a new handbag (another Carlo Rino, which is totally awesome and bought for me by my mum), shoes (couple of them from my mum as well), clothes (many from my mum again. Haha, I know I am a lucky girl), I am left with cosmetics. Zoe and Jul knew that I wanted a lipstick, and with that $100, I can splurge on one! And some loose powder maybe (not Sisley though because it costs 98 bucks). But maybe also Bobbi Brown gel liner... went to try it before at the counter which is quite good and my aunt also said it's good. I am now getting the hang of it thanks to Zoe's Kate gel liner (which is quite gd but it's in brown) so I was thinking of getting another one. Plus it's $40 (not very ex) but need to get a brush which I am not going to buy BB's because it cost $30++... totally not worth it.

Got to trust my aunt on cosmetics part, because she has many expat wives friends plus my uncle's family's knowledge to count on. Example of brands to avoid is Dior (she said many of them totally avoided Dior because they are really not very good in SC and MU), Bobbi Brown (only good one is their gel eyeliner loh. But I saw NRWZD always endorses BB eyeshadow) and some other brands that I can't remember. Haha, I think my aunt's opinions same as Zoe. So yeah, got money to buy what I wanted leh...

Anyway, maybe I will head down to Borders one day to get that children book that Lucas wanted... that day on the train Lucas was staring at this teacup book that another ang moh girl (she was 15 mths, Lucas 18 mths) was holding. My aunt was really interested in it and the mother of the girl said it was from Borders. But by then we were just leaving Orchard to go City Hall for Brooks' Brothers, so it was too late to go back there. Maybe if she asked me to help her get another Massimo Dutti or Brooks in SG then I can send that book along with it... =D She actually wanted to come to my covo this year, but because she and Lucas are already in France in July till Aug so she's not going to make it. Sigh, imagine me holding Lucas in my covo grown in NUS! Too bad that's not going to happen...

Haha, two more photos of my cousin before he and my aunt left =) Most of them were blurry, for some reasons..

Don't ask me what he was doing, because I can't remember...

He was very hot at this point from playing...

I am still waiting for my aunt to send me those pictures of me and him chasing pigeons =) But I sure looked very ugly, because I was very hot and sticky from chasing him who was doing the chasing of pigeons...

Anyway, the loan policy that MAS has come up with really come into good time. I can defer payment for another 1 year without accuing interest! I told Linda that I wanted to write in a letter to the MP or ST about the lack of government efforts in helping fresh grads to look for jobs because I think at least half of them have loan issues but I think I can start to write off that idea le! Haha, I also dunno whether ST will bother to publish my letter anot... haha. Now feel so much better le, no loan issue to weigh on my head for at least 1 year. Haha...

On a totally random note, I just starting to think that Zegna men's wear is really totally awesome. It's full name is actually Ermenegildo Zegna, and it's located at Paragon (next to Ferragamo I think) and Taka for a non full fledged store. And I recently saw it at the 1st floor of capital tower... I saw the shirts, and it looks totally awesome, especially those cuff links type. If you are willing to splurge SGD500 bucks on a men's shirt (for dad or bf), really should get Zegna's. Or if want something more affordable, get Brooks'. It's at Vivo and Raffles City, and it's only about SGD100 to 200, but the design is less nice lah.

And another random note, Grasshoppers are coming back for a concert! Haha, on 9 May with their Right Now concert! Haha... dunno my mum want to go this time anot leh... if we are going I am going to get the most expensive tickets! I am totally gutted when I realised that Jason Mraz's concert is totally sold out (I read from forums that it got sold out within a week, but the papers stated on the first day). So does Adeline... now thinking whether I should look around to see whether there are people selling off their tickets... And also there is Craig David's! In April... hmm, so many concerts. I am really going broke soon!

Ok ok, I named this post as Short and Sweet because I thought it is going to be a short post. Apparently not...

Cheerios.

P.S. Anyone knows whether the normal watch shops can cut short those watches with metal straps? My aunt bought me 2 D&G watches, one with golden metal strap but it's really too bad for me... yes yes I know golden metal strap but it's actually chosen by my uncle. It's actually less ah long looking and more classic looking. Will wear it out when I got the strap cut =D

Moments in Time

My idea of a normal day....

Wake up at noon or later.

Have lunch cooked by mum.

Watch tv shows online or on cable or dvds till dinner time.

Eat dinner.

More tv shows.

Waiting for my parents to come home from work.

Chat with them, spending time with them.

Bedtime at my own time.

AH..... Bliss....

**************************

Another type of bliss.....

Marrying a good and preferably rich husband (hopefully shuai too lah... haha).

Giving birth to a few children.

Caring for them while waiting for your husband to come home.

No need to worry about not having enough money without me working.

Enjoying family love.

Ah....~~ Really blissful.

******************************

I heard of a few lines from the TV before. One from Charmed (LOL, can you believe it?). I remembered Phoebe was given an advice from her editor, who said, "You don't want to wake up every morning knowing that you only have nothing but your career by your bedside" Which means everyone should try to find love....

Another one was from another drama which I can't remember. The female character said, "At least I work because I want to pass time, not because I need the pay packet each month to survive." Wah, what a bliss. To work to pppaaassss timmmee....

Hmm, maybe one day I will open a wedding shop and I be the wedding planner or something... do something with some kind of purpose in life instead of working for someone blindly.

Oh well, I am allowed to dream, do I?

Cheerios. xoxo

**BTW, just wishing that the call that I have gotten today came earlier or even last month... I would have been much happier. Heartache arh!

I was on another planet

The past few days makes me feel like I was on another planet altogether. I used to be online every single day to do all sorts of things but I managed not to be online for 3 days straight! Not that it was hard. I was too tired by the end of the day to even switch on my computer....

My aunt and cousin left this morning back to Beijing, after arriving here 3 weeks ago. Lucas has grown so much in this 3 weeks! Haha... it was so much fun with him, and also so tiring with him. Imagine having to chase him round the store and having to look out for him every single minute in case he breaks something! He was actually twisting the clock around at Massimo Dutti in Liat Towers and was walking round and round a pillar in that store because there were mirrors at the pillar... -_-''' But he was really cute =D He was pretending to be King Kong chasing the pigeons in front of Ngee Ann City! Got so many spectators laughing like crazy because he was so funny! Haha!

And I find myself exhibiting motherly love!! Ah! He came looking for me when my aunt wasn't around, especially he knocked into something he will lay his head on my shoulders and cry... and I have to feed him when my aunt wasn't free. And he called me once "jie jie" when he was looking for a playmate... Haha! But I am too early for motherly love! Die!

And I also stepped into some high end stores that I never dare to step into, such as Zegna (their men working shirts cost about SGD500++! And suits about SGD1500++!! Gasps!), Hugo Boss (their shirts cost about SGD300++), Tiffany and Co etc. Haha! An eye opener, I must say.

But with them gone, another part of my life is going to begin. Sigh! Time always pass so fast... I am feeling old already.

And they will be back next year =D

Cheerios.

P.S. The pictures of my cousin and I chasing pigeons are with my aunt. Will post them up when I got them =D

3 Movies in A Row and Primary Sch days

In the last 2 weeks, I watched Doubt, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Reader. Out of these 3 movies, I love Benjamin Button and The Reader, partly because Doubt was difficult to understand.

Benjamin Button got me thinking, what if my life is like him? That is, I grow younger by the minute and die as a baby? I wouldn't have mind actually. At least the hard part of aging is over first. And you know, u can get more energy by the minute to do the stuff u want in the future. And dying as a baby is pretty! At least u die with good skin =) But then again, I won't want to fall in love with someone who has normal aging process. It is painful to know that u only have a period of time whereby u are compatible to your partner and each one of u are heading to different directions in life. I won't want to be Daisy (Cate Blanchett). The movie is extremely sad at the end lah, whereby u see Daisy hugging a baby, knowing that the baby has forgotten who she was and that u guys will never be the same again.

Too bad I think they sort of skim through the last years of Benjamin's life. But then again, Jul and I were already sitting in the theatre for more than 3 hrs that our butts hurt and probably it is not a good idea to NOT skim through those last years.

Btw, Cate Blanchett has really amazing flawless skin. Hmm, SKII really helps her huh? Not that she is not a beauty..... I think she has this timeless beauty aura in her that the more she ages, the more beautiful she looks.

The Reader arouses totally different emotions in me. I feel so sad for Hannah. She was ashamed of a secret, and she was willing to pay her whole life to keep that secret. And the affair affected Michael deeply... the second part of the movie aches me immersely, with all the emotions flying around the movie, I was close to tears when Hannah died. I totally feel for Kate Winslet, and I really hope she gets the award that she rightfully deserves.

Not to mention Ralph Finnes, the adult Michael, who lived his life in pain and yet having to put a strong face to living his life. He was actually acting as Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter films, so I never realised that he can be such a good actor =)

**Actually, on a random note, I really REALLY hope Heath is going to win the Best Supporting Actor for Oscars because the last time I checked, he pretty much won every award (He won the Screen Actors' Guild or SAG btw, which is also a huge award. Left with Bafta which is happening later today) and has the loudest cry for award from the public =D

Btw, just to make clear of something. I am doing this blog entry not because I am trying to showcase I am a great movie critic, or show that I have better taste in movies or whatsoever ideas that u may have that indirectly means that I am hao lian or arrogant. I am doing this blog entry because I am really affected by these movies (in particular The Reader) and have many thoughts running through my head. I am really interested in these shows and is not trying to make myself sound more artistic.

Well, being the Oscars month this month, there are simply too many shows to watch. My list to watch was:

1. Milk (missed it)
2. Doubt
3. Changeling (think I missed it too)
4. The Reader
5. The Wrestler (maybe)
6. Revolutionary Road
7. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
8. Slumdog Millionaire (maybe)
9. Frost/ Nixon (maybe)

Pretty much I am less than halfway there.... normally this is the month I really go broke (the other month is june, for the summer blockbusters) due to the numerous number of shows that is MUST WATCH. Definitely the one movie I have to watch is Revolutionary Road, with the 2 actors I really want to see them together. And I am extremely curious with what's the hype with Slumdog Millionaire!

Anyway, I realised that Revolutionary Road is really totally snubbed from Oscars and I really don't understand why. I think I have to watch the show first before understanding the reason behind it.

And maybe I can do a little "My faves" in the category... they are in yellow

Best Picture
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Frost/Nixon
Milk
The Reader (for obvious reasons)
Slumdog Millionaire

Best Actor
Richard Jenkins – The Visitor
Frank Langella – Frost/Nixon
Sean Penn – Milk (He won the SAG, and honestly speaking, I think he's the better actor than Brad)
Brad Pitt – The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (He is really good lah.)
Mickey Rourke – The Wrestler

Best Actress
Anne Hathaway – Rachel Getting Married
Angelina Jolie – Changeling
Melissa Leo – Frozen River
Meryl Streep – Doubt
Kate Winslet – The Reader

Best Supporting Actor
Josh Brolin – Milk
Robert Downey, Jr. – Tropic Thunder
Philip Seymour Hoffman – Doubt
Heath Ledger – The Dark Knight
Michael Shannon – Revolutionary Road

Best Supporting Actress
Amy Adams – Doubt (I actually like her. She's cool! And she was the actress in Enchanted... haha! What is difference!)
Penélope Cruz – Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Viola Davis – Doubt
Taraji P. Henson – The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Marisa Tomei – The Wrestler

And yah btw, this years' Oscars is going to be host be Hugh Jackman! Haha, it's going to be interesting...

Alright, tml's the grammys. Will wake up early for it.

Btw, yesterday while Zoe, Jul and I were at Vivo, we went to try out Estee's new vibrating mascara (thanks viv)... haha it is not bad and it's onl $50 bucks, which is not expensive if u consider carefully. The girl who did my lashes was very nice... haha. She was telling us how her colleagues and her were 'playing and fooling' around with it when they have gotten the sample but weren't due to be released yet. The wand is rather interesting. It starts vibrating when you twist it open, unlike the Lancome one which I am sure that there is a button on the handle for u to press to activate the vibration. I would personally prefer the button method because at least I have the choice of not having the vibration when I want to. But anyway, the effect is quite nice. No matter how perfect your lashes are, I guess a mascara that does better than your previous one is always nice =) I am not going to complain about having 'too perfect' lashes even if I am happy with what I have.

By the way, for Zoe's sake, I checked out the mascara with a ball tip le. It is from Givenchy, and it's rather interesting actually. And the effect, according to the show, is actually quite good. But the wand really looks like a weapon. (And ok, I am going to stop talking about mascaras now if I can help it. I kinda feel like these 2 entries make me sound like a bimbo....)And yesterday we talked about certain things (such as the kind of people we hate), trying to understand some other issues that we couldn't understand, Zoe's hate on roses on V day (haha, I prefer gerberas anytime) and then we were thinking about primary school days and were laughing so hard on the train back... Talking about people such as Alan and his 'brother', Raymond, Vivian (a guy classmate), Eng Hwee and his elephant apple, Suat Suat, Eng Keong, Rainer, Darius (the ah kua ah kua one), Fu Zhi Qi (I still remember his full name), Colin (I used to call him dictionary and I remembered he used to love Hanson), Ruifen, Huifen/ Weiyun, An Qi, Edwin, Yan Leng (the last time he saw me he almost fell off a step... wahahhaha) and last but not least, ARJUN!!! And his red macdonald lunchbox who want to go to RI.... almakz! Haha! What good memories we had. =D

Cheerios! It's the great film season! And a good "thinking back" season!

**Btw, thanks to jul for the sleeping mask and the other masks u bought! =D

Lancome Ôscillation Mascara

I meant to blog about this a long time ago... and I don't care if a lot of people knew about this already.

I saw on NRWZD about this mascara very long time ago (I think it's Nov) but I don't know the brand at first. But after Zoe pointed it out on a HK mag that I have when she came to my house 2 months ago, I was like "What!? The brand is Lancome??"

In any sense, the hype about this brush is that the wand can perform 7000 oscillations per minute and is battery operated (last 180 applications). I think it's only available in black though... I am VERY INTERESTED in this Lancome Ôscillation Mascara and hope it will come to Sg soon! It is released in US in Oct 2008 already... What's more, I think Lancome mascaras are good and with this oscillations thing, it shouldn't be too bad right?

Haha, yes the only thing I can go crazy about is mascaras =)

Actually, the other day on NZWRD also have another type of mascara that is battery operated and the wand can rotate on its own... shown at least 2 months ago le. Anyone know what is that brand of mascara? The very frustrating thing about that show is that they nv say which brand of makeup or skincare they are using and recommending... (except for the time when Kevin teacher was rather dumb in saying that they are not allowed to show the brand of the makeup and still display the full double C chanel lip palette out without any mosaic-ing... hahaha)

Cheerios. XoXo Click here for picture, and here for official page.

Gifts, Realisation and Grammys

Ah, been lazy to blog these days. Have been an absolute bum these days, because I just feel like lazing around. It's nice to have the feeling of do nothing, because I know that these days will not last long. How irony it is. When I was young (like 7 or 8 years old), I wish I was grown up and out earning money because I thought that grown ups can get days leave whenever they want and for me, I can only stay at home if I am on MC. When I was in AHS, I pretty much wish my O levels will be over. When I was in JC, I just want to get into Uni because I want to stop worrying about my A Levels. And how, after all the schooling, I just wish I can go back to 7 or 8 years old, to sec sch life, to JC life, because I think there is where bliss is...

Sigh, I know the day about me wishing I am back in school will always come one day and it really hits me! At least school have school holidays! Sigh!

Anyway, I always have this feeling about holidays actually. When it's the start of the hols, u feel like u got lots of time in the world. The time will go slowly initially. Then, when u get to the middle of the hols, time starts to move faster. And it gets faster till it's over... do u guys feel the same way? Because honestly, I feel the exact same way. It's the same with anything that got to do with time. Whenever it is my situation now, or during sch term, or even the schooling period (from primary school to uni. I still remember I tell my mum that school hols are too long during my pri1/ 2 years). But I guess for hols, it is much more obvious. I realised that whenever it is the starting of the hols, I normally have no idea what to do so I spent my time mostly doing nothing...

I remembered a phase from Enid Blyton books, from one of the characters from the mysteries series (which btw, I thought was one of the best books I have read during my primary schools day...) haha yes I still remembered that line until today because I thought the phase was so interesting. It is "Time moves slowly initially. Then when it gets to the middle of the holidays, time starts to gallop." LOL....

Anyway, thanks to adeline! She gave me those stuff that I really want! Thanks Adeline!

Also, I have watched Doubt with Jul, and now going to watch The Reader on Sat (along with some catching up) soon! I love Kate Winslet! And I love Oscar movies!

Haha, Grammys are coming up on Mon, and I thought I shall say who are the ones that I want to win (can be more than one....). Normally, my predictions are never accurate, but then again, I can give them for fun =)

And I am also biased, because there are some songs that I never heard of ( or in genres that I disliked).... Haha.

Yellow - those that I THINK will win (but not necessary I like more)

I guess that's it... lazy to post le. But from above, I think it's kinda obvious I like which artists.... Haha... and yes yes, there are still a lot of stuff that people who dun really know about.

Talking about music, I happened to find this old 911 video. I remembered I used to love them so much, esp Lee (the guy in stripe black shirt) who is simply delicious (haha!!) I have a crush when I was 12! And I have all their CDs!!

It's called How Do You Want Me To Love You. I still remembered Zoe can't remember the exact words to the song title cause she thought it was too long.... lol...

Also, can't leave this post without more youtube videos.... haha. I am sure that there are only a few people who know that I love Michael J Fox A LOT, but he semi retired from acting due to his Parkinson's, so it's hard to see him on screen or on TV again. I think the last time I saw him was when he guest starred in 3 epi in Scrubs (I delibrately went to chase after Scrubs every episode on season 3 just to see him) So, when I saw this video, it kinda shocked me.

It's just saddens me a lot. He got his illness when he was 31 in 1991, and after 18 years, look how much his illness worsened. It actually hurts. And to think I saw on a HK show that Parkinsons is an "old people" illness... BS! Fox got it at 31! And he used to look very very shuai one.... too bad he looked so old after getting that illness =(

In case there are some people who wonder what shows he act in, he was in the famous trilogy of Back to the Future I, II, III (which I absolutely love. I saw these 3 movies on Channel 5), Teen Wolf, voiced Stuart Little, Spin City...

Too bad there are far and between people in Singapore who listens to english music, or else surely there will be somebody arguing with me who should win and who should not.

Alright, I am just plain lazy now. Cheerios.
